Birmingham Zoo keepers are trying this morning to coax a trained talking parrot out of a tree after it flew away Saturday.
Vasa, a vasa parrot, was spotted this morning on zoo property, said Katrina Cade, of marketing and media at the zoo. As of 11 a.m. the parrot was in a tree and zoo keepers were trying to coax it down, she said.
"He is responding to his keepers and he's trying to figure out how to get down," Cade said. "He will go from one branch to another branch like he's trying to get down."
Vasa is one of the trained birds the zoo uses for educational purposes and parties, Cade said. The parrot talks, she said.
The parrot is kept in an enclosure, Cade said. Details of how the parrot got away from keepers yesterday were unavailable this morning, she said.
