The Georgia Aquarium, still a relative newcomer to the aquarium scene, will open its $110-million, 84,000-square-foot AT&T Dolphin Tales gallery next month, which includes an auditorium that seats about 1,800 people. The centerpiece of the gallery is the theatrical show in which up to nine (the number varies) Atlantic bottlenose dolphins perform. The lobby entrance to the dolphin gallery features a 25-foot-long underwater viewing window with three sections of interactive display options to educate guests about dolphins and dolphin conservation. (You can text SPLASH or DOLPHIN to 20222 from a cellphone and donate $10 to benefit the Georgia Aquarium’s dolphin conservation efforts.) The aquarium's Atlantic bottlenose dolphins came from accredited zoological facilities in Florida, the Bahamas, Bermuda and Hawaii, said spokeswoman Meghann Gibbon. Until the April grand opening of AT&T’s Dolphin Tales, weekly webisodes, which cover the making of the Dolphin Tales show, transportation of the dolphins to Atlanta, and dolphin care and training, are being posted on the Georgia Aquarium website.
